Dental Implants

A Dental Implant is a strong, reliable and effective way of replacing single or multiple teeth in the mouth. Just like how a root anchors a tooth in place, a titanium fixture (screw) supports a porcelain crown that mimics a natural tooth. In most cases this is a relatively simple procedure and healing time is usually very quick.  Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support structure for artificial teeth such as crowns and bridges. Dentures, crowns and bridges mounted to implants will not slip or move in your mouth, an especially important benefit when eating and speaking.

For some patients’ ordinary bridges and dentures are simply not clinically possible, or comfortable. This can be due to a number of reasons such as sore spots, poor ridges (the bony part of the jaw that supports teeth) or gagging. Ordinary bridges must be attached to teeth on either side of the space left by the missing tooth. One advantage of implants is that no adjacent teeth need to be prepared or ground down to hold your new replacement tooth, or teeth, in place.

To be a good candidate to receive a Dental Implant, you will need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. You must also be committed to caring for your mouth and ensuring meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental visits.

How do dental implants work?

A small fixture is placed where the root of the missing tooth would normally sit and given a period of time to allow the area to heal.

Once the fixture integrates into the jaw, an impression is taken of the area to allow the laboratory to make the crown. Once ready, the Dental Implant is either screwed into or glued onto the fixture.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Very strong and stable

Doesn’t rely on adjacent teeth to support a new tooth. This is especially important in cases where the adjacent teeth may not be suitable to support another tooth or have not been previously restored.

Single or multiple implants can be used to replace as many teeth as needed.

Can be used to make a denture more stable or support a fixed bridge to replace all the missing teeth in either jaw.
